Abstract
In order to know natural course on Korean with HIV infection, we evaluated hematoimmunological state including CD4+cells, ¥â2-microglobulin(Pharmacia, Swden), complete blood count(CBC), ESR and skin delayed type hypersensitivity for 17 dead and
living
ALDC patients with CD4+cells below 200/mm*.
Serum ¥â2-microglobulin level (mg/L) tested most recently was 5.5*2.4 totally, 6.3*2.4 at mean 4.6 months befre death for 7 dead patients and 4.7*2.3 for 7 living patients. Mean CD4+cells(/mm3)was 103 67 totally, 73 50 at 2.8 month before death
for
7
dead patients and 133 71 for 7 living patients. There were not significant differenc for WBC and hemoglobin, but lymphocyte count and percentage were 901 423(/mm3) and 23%, 2133 1092(/mm3) and 42%, for dead and living patient, repectively (P 0.01
and P
0.050. ESR (mm/h)was 59 7 for dead patient and 34 24 for living patient (P 0.05). Skin delayed type hypersensitivity through Multitest CMI(Institute Merieux, France)were decreased;two patients were anergy, 6 partial anergy and 2 normal.
We confirmed that serum 2 -microglobulin level increases and CD4+cells count decreses as disease progresses, and regular CBC findings and ESR measurement may be used as a simple and easy tool for progression to ALDS if serum 2-microglobulin and
CD4+cells measurement were not available.
